Tips for sharpening your image in Photoshop
Virtually every image you bring into Photoshop (scanning or digital camera) will need at least a little bit of sharpening. There are quite a few ways in Photoshop to sharpen an image (Sharpen, Sharpen More filters, the Sharpen tool and my personal favorite, Unsharp Mask). Here are a few helpful tips, no matter what method you choose to use, for sharpening your image.
Crop & straighten your images
If you’re scanning several photos in for a project, it can be quite a pain to scan them one at a time for the sake of cropping and straightening them. Then again, if you try to scan them all at once, you have to manually straighten them and break them out to separate files, right? Wrong. Photoshop has a built-in feature that will make this task much easier.
Using the Measure/Ruler tool in Photoshop
The Measure/Ruler tool can be a handy little gem when you’re working in Photoshop.
Creating a halftone dot image border
If you’re looking for a way to highlight a part of an image, or simply create a unique border, try the old halftone dot border trick. To do it, follow these six simple steps below.
Finding the CMYK equivalent of a Pantone color
Many times you are asked to find the CMYK equivalent of a particular Pantone color. If you don’t have a Pantone to Process conversion guide available, you can use Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
Free light effects Photoshop filter
L’amico Perro Luce (Light Effects) is a nifty Photoshop filter (for Windows only) that allows you to add beams of light from any given source in your image.

Make an image look digital
An image on a computer is built up by pixels, normally they're so small so we don't see them until we zoom real close, but they are there. Here's a cool trick if you want show the pixels more and perhaps create an transition from normal on one side and pixels on the other side.
The Extract tool
One of the most common things beginners to Photoshop wants to be able todo is separate one object or so from it's background. There are as many ways to extract an object from it's background as there are languages on our earth and every one is different from each other. One way is using the filter in Photoshop called Extract.

Adobe's acquisition of Pixmantec: an FAQ
Following up on the announcement that Adobe is acquiring Pixmantec, we've posted an FAQ document (60KB PDF). A couple of key points:
- Registered customers who purchased RawShooter Premium will be able to download the shipping version of Lightroom 1.0 for free.
- Although RawShooter Essentials & RawShooter Premium are being discontinued, there will still be an update to add support for the Canon 30D.

New book on Flash Video featured on Design Center
I just want to highlight some excerpts we have recently posted on the Adobe Design Center. The excerpts are from "Foundation Flash 8 Video" by Tom Green and Jordan Chilcott, a book from friends of ED. I've checked out a number of chapters from this book, and it looks great - each chapter contains a wealth of procedures that tell you how to actually do stuff (instead of talking about doing stuff... ). I also like to see that the book includes a lot of integration between Illustrator, After Effects, and Flash. Anyway, we're really happy that they agreed to let us share some of their tutorials on the Design Center.

TIP: Change the cursor size
One of the often-overlooked options in the Photoshop CS2 Preferences is to change the painting cursor to Full Size Brush Tip. This option indicates the full area affected by soft-edged brushes. There's also an option to display a crosshair in the center of the brush shape.
Adobe Lightroom for Windows
According to Tim Grey who recently saw a "sneak peek" at the Windows version of Adobe Lightroom, it's coming "soon". If you want to hear when the beta is available, you can sign up.

Did You Know You Could Create An Entire Website In Photoshop?
SiteGrinder Photoshop Plugin - Create Websites Instantly
There often seems to be a strict division of labor within the world of web design and development. Creative professionals tend to stick to the Photoshop domain, while those well-versed in scripting are left to the task of implementing their work. Indeed, the two realms are quite different from each other, to which any of us even vaguely familiar with either can easily attest.
Essentially, Photoshop is a no-holds-barred design studio, offering the artist a seemingly endless array of creative options. On the other hand, HTML, CSS, Java and the like follow strict rules of engagement, requiring the developer to take any number of esoteric concerns into consideration in order to ensure that designs are properly displayed on the web.
Turn Photoshop Into A Complete Web Design Tool
SiteGrinder seeks to bridge this gap between design and development. Basically, this program turns Photoshop into an easy-to-use and fully functional web design tool. With SiteGrinder, designers will now have the freedom to totally let their creativity loose and then, without skipping a beat, transfer their designs to the web. Bringing esthetic concerns together with more practical considerations, this program is an amazingly powerful tool that would make a fantastic addition to any web designer's bag of tricks.
Generate Your Web Pages Directly From Photoshop
By generating web pages directly from Photoshop, you'll be able to spend much more time on the creative end of the spectrum, since you'll know right off the bat how well particular designs will translate to the web. No more going back to the Photoshop drawing board after getting a phone call from your development team, telling you that what you had envisioned doesn't have a chance of being displayed on the web. You can immediately visually and interactively test your designs, which permits you to then make changes to either esthetics or functions while it's still relatively early on in the design process.
Pricing and Availability
Mac OS X and Windows versions of the SiteGrinder unlockable demo are available now via download. SiteGrinder can be ordered from Media Lab's online store.
