THURSDAY - DECEMBER 29 2005

Here's my latest collection of Photoshop links pointing to tutorials, tips and tricks that will hopefully keep you busy until the new year. So Happy New Year and may 2006 bring you all you wish for!
TIP: Getting Back To The Original Raw Image
[From Scott Kelby] "If you're looking at thumbnails of your Raw images in the Bridge, and you see a tiny round icon that looks like two adjustment sliders, that's telling you this image has been adjusted in Camera Raw (so the thumbnail you see represents a "tweaked" version of the original Raw image). That's not the tip. The tip is how to quickly remove those tweaks, so you're once again seeing the original unadjusted raw image, WITHOUT having to go back in to Camera Raw."
Warp Anything in Photoshop CS2
[From Matt Kloskowski at Informit.com] "In Photoshop CS2 with the new Warp tool you can warp any object, layer, or selection. This is a must-have feature if you're a designer because it takes away the need for you to fake this effect using filters or various other techniques."
Creating Clipping Groups in Photoshop
[From 31three] "Although creating 'clipping groups' in Photoshop is a fairly basic technique, I thought I would take a few minutes to outline the process here because I've found that many designers have yet to discover it."
Put Photoshop's Crosshatch Filter To Work
[From Graphics.com] This filter improves on real artists’ cross-hatching by creating individual strokes composed of different colors.
New DNG Utility: Recover Edges
[From John Nack] "Thomas Knoll has created a new utility called DNG Recover Edges, designed to reveal pixels at the very edges of raw files that are, for various reasons, not shown when these images are displayed normally."
Photoshop Crossword Puzzle
[From PhotoshopCrosswords.com] "Test your Photoshop know-how and have fun with this free Photoshop Crosswords puzzle. Check back again for a new puzzle each month."
Cool Brushes for Making Clouds
[From Scott Kelby] "David Nagel, over at CreativeMac.com, just released a free set of Photoshop brushes that are pretty slick. They create realistic clouds (much better than the Clouds filter in Photoshop itself) and best of all, they're free!"
Design Competitions Calendar
[From Ivan at CreativeBits] "Here you can find all the competitions until 2006 June."
TIP: Warp A Selection
[From Dave Cross] "Here's an interesting possibility: after making a basic selection and choosing Transform Selection (from the Select menu), a button appears in the Options bar that lets you turn the basic transform handles into warp handles."
Using Color and Light, Part 1
[From Layers Magazine] "As much as we like to think of ourselves as creatures of reason, we humans are emotional beings. For any ad or visual composition to be truly effective, it must tell a story and elicit the right emotion."
Using Color and Light, Part 2
[From Layers Magazine] "In this part, we will use a variety of techniques to unify the images and to create the mysterious, slightly ominous effect we are after."
Using Color and Light, Part 3
[From Layers Magazine] "In this final part of the tutorial, you will create a title treatment and type that will add to the emotion and be integrated with the overall illustration."
PhotoshopCAFE.com Opens Design Challenge 6
[From PhotoshopCAFE.com] The annual design contest provides over $7,000 in prizes. This year's theme is the design of a cereal box using Photoshop.
Mastering Photoshop's Trace Contour Filter
[From Graphics.com] Roger Pring shows how to put this sometimes confusing Photoshop filter to work in LAB mode.
As always, a big Batgirl thank you to James Jean

Special Offer - Fluid Mask - Photoshop Masking Plugin
Fluid Mask is based on breakthrough segmentation technology inspired by the way the eye, optic nerve and brain perform visual processing. When an image is loaded, Fluid Mask's segmentation engine analyses the distribution of colors, finding the natural groups within the image. Together with information calculated about edges, gradients and textures, a model is constructed which divides the images into objects.
Vertus Software is offering Fluid Mask at the special 'friends and partner' discounted rate. This is an exclusive offer to visitors of PhotoshopSupport.com. To qualify, visit the Fluid Mask Discount Price page. Find out more about Fluid Mask on our special Fluid Mask Page.

SiteGrinder Photoshop Plugin - Create Websites Instantly
There often seems to be a strict division of labor within the world of web design and development. Creative professionals tend to stick to the Photoshop domain, while those well-versed in scripting are left to the task of implementing their work. Indeed, the two realms are quite different from each other, to which any of us even vaguely familiar with either can easily attest.
Essentially, Photoshop is a no-holds-barred design studio, offering the artist a seemingly endless array of creative options. On the other hand, HTML, CSS, Java and the like follow strict rules of engagement, requiring the developer to take any number of esoteric concerns into consideration in order to ensure that designs are properly displayed on the web.
Turn Photoshop Into A Complete Web Design Tool
SiteGrinder seeks to bridge this gap between design and development. Basically, this program turns Photoshop into an easy-to-use and fully functional web design tool. With SiteGrinder, designers will now have the freedom to totally let their creativity loose and then, without skipping a beat, transfer their designs to the web. Bringing esthetic concerns together with more practical considerations, this program is an amazingly powerful tool that would make a fantastic addition to any web designer's bag of tricks.
Generate Your Web Pages Directly From Photoshop
By generating web pages directly from Photoshop, you'll be able to spend much more time on the creative end of the spectrum, since you'll know right off the bat how well particular designs will translate to the web. No more going back to the Photoshop drawing board after getting a phone call from your development team, telling you that what you had envisioned doesn't have a chance of being displayed on the web. You can immediately visually and interactively test your designs, which permits you to then make changes to either esthetics or functions while it's still relatively early on in the design process.
Pricing and Availability
Mac OS X and Windows versions of the SiteGrinder unlockable demo are available now via download. SiteGrinder can be ordered from Media Lab's online store.
