Adobe Updates Photoshop CS3 to Version 10.0.1
Adobe has updated Photoshop CS3 to version 10.0.1 for both Macintosh and Windows. The Photoshop 10.0.1 update addresses a number of issues discovered after Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended (10.0) software were released. Read the full story...
Adobe Photoshop On Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Is Good To Go
John Nack has posted the following info on Photoshop and Leopard compatibility to his blog: "The good news is that most Adobe apps don't require updates in order to run well. That is, the CS3 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and other apps are good to go for Leopard right now. Rock out."
He quotes some FAQ items from the Leopard Read Me files, then goes on to say: "I can't speak for other app teams, but while we naturally concentrated our testing on Photoshop CS3 (and beyond), we also tested CS2 a fair bit. The only significant problem we discovered is that Photoshop's Web Photo Gallery module can crash while running under Leopard. We plan to post an updated version that fixes the crash, but that won't go up until Monday. In case you're impatient, I've attached the file here. And that, in a nutshell, is it. Have fun." You can also monitor what's going on with users by reading through the comments on his blog.
For install advice, head over to the tech blog of Adobe's Terry White and read through The Road to Leopard - Part 1. Terry has a very smart system to make sure you protect yourself when installing Leopard. He suggests using an external boot drive to handle the new system install and tells you how to do it.
For more on compatibility issues, read The Road to Leopard - Part 2. In this post he says: "Now for the news that many of you have been waiting for: Adobe Creative Suite 3 compatibility is GREAT! A few of the apps (Acrobat 8 Professional, Premiere Pro CS3, After Effects CS3, Soundbooth CS3 and Encore CS3) will need dot releases and those dot releases are in the works. The dot releases are mostly to fix minor issues."
On the Adobe site you can find an official Adobe Leopard statement in PDF that has all the timelines for future updates. You can find extensive Leopard coverage at the MacWorld site, and to keep on top of the latest issues, visit the Adobe User To User Forums and the Apple Leopard Support Forums.

Photoshop Plug-In for Google 3D Warehouse Released
Adobe and Google have announced the Photoshop CS3 Extended plug-in for the Google 3D Warehouse, enabling Photoshop CS3 Extended users to take further advantage of the software’s powerful compositing, painting and image-editing toolset for editing 3D content.
The plugin will allow users to query and download free 3D content from the Google 3D Warehouse, Google’s free online repository for 3D models and content, directly within Photoshop CS3 Extended. 3D Content then can be placed, manipulated and used in composites with the new 3D tools in Photoshop CS3 Extended. The plug-in is available for free download from the Adobe Labs site.
“We were happy to collaborate with Adobe on the Photoshop Extended plug-in for the Google 3D Warehouse. With this plug-in, users of Photoshop CS3 Extended can participate in the 3D Warehouse community, giving them the ability to search, store and share thousands of 3D models and content,” said Mark Limber, product manager at Google. “The Google 3D Warehouse repository, combined with Photoshop CS3 Extended, allows creatives, architects, manufacturers and others to find exactly what they need to bring their virtual worlds and conceptual designs to life.” Read the full story.

Photoshop CS3 Installation Problems And Solutions
John Nack has posted info on his blog about certain issues that can arise when installing CS3 if you have Adobe Beta Builds on your computer. Here's the latest news from John:
- Adobe has posted a clean-up script for Mac that will remove vestiges of the Photoshop CS3 public beta as well as other pre-release apps. It's important to run this script (and not just throw the app folder into the trash!), and/or to use the application uninstaller, before installing the shipping version of CS3 apps. An equivalent script will be posted for Windows later in the week. (I'm told that tech support is seeing fewer installation problem reports on Windows because people are used to uninstallers on that platform).
You'll find the link to the clean-up script in his blog post, and while there make sure to read through the comments for some info from users on this issue. Also have a look at MacFixIt which is reporting problems and offering solutions concerning installing CS3. They also have reader comments with some insights.
PhotoshopNews has some posts on this subject as well. They've published 3 Adobe Tech notes of interest which you can find at their site:
Adobe TechNote: Manually Remove Photoshop CS3 public beta (Mac OS X)
Adobe TechNote: Manually remove Photoshop CS3 public beta (Windows Vista)
Adobe TechNote: Manually Remove Photoshop CS3 public beta (Windows XP)

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Review From Macworld
Here's the beginning of the recent review of Photoshop CS3 from Macworld:
"It’s simple, really: if digital imaging is an important part of your creative life, you’ll want Adobe Photoshop CS3 (see all Photoshop upgrade options at the Adobe Store). The new version provides so many improvements in so many areas that no serious digital photographer, video artist, or designer should be without it.
"But although the program is a must-have, it isn’t perfect. While some of Photoshop CS3’s new features shine, others need polish. What’s more, Photoshop now comes in two flavors, so you’ll need to decide between the standard version and the pricier, more fully featured Photoshop CS3 Extended.
Photoshop CS3 sports numerous user-interface enhancements, many of which appear across the CS3 product line. Fortunately, Adobe didn’t change the vast majority of keyboard shortcuts that many Photoshop users perform in their sleep so Photoshop veterans will feel at home even as they enjoy exploring their new surroundings.
"Foremost among these enhancements is a new scheme for managing Photoshop’s many tool palettes, now called panels. Panels can reside in docks that you can show and hide with a keystroke and have appear or disappear as you mouse toward or away from the edge of your screen. You can drag panels between docks and opt to have panels be represented by space-saving icons: click on an icon, and it expands into a panel. Spend a few minutes customizing your panels and docks, and you can create a very efficient workspace.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Review From Ben Long
Here's the intro to the review of Photoshop CS3 from Ben Long at creativepro.com:
"
Yes, Photoshop is now seventeen years old. While the app may not be of legal age to smoke or drink, it is nevertheless a mature piece of software. Yet Adobe hasn't stopped improving its flagship child. Photoshop CS3 delivers a few head-turning new features, and many fixes to older features.
"This review will focus on the standard Photoshop CS3 edition. You may have heard that Photoshop CS3 also ships in an 'Extended' edition, which includes additional, high-end features aimed at video and film users, and scientific applications. For example, with the Extended version, you can use the Clone Stamp tool to clone across multiple video frames.
"The Extended version also provides extensive 3D support, allowing you to import 3D objects for compositing and texturing. Special 2D and 3D measurement tools, as well as extensive support for MATLAB, will appeal to research professionals and others who need to analyze images. In general, it's safe to say that photographers, designers, and other 'creative professionals' won't need to spring for the Extended edition. That's especially welcome given its price: $999 for the full version and $349 for an upgrade, compared to $649 full/$199 upgrade for the standard Photoshop (see all Photoshop upgrade options at the Adobe Store)."

First Look: Adobe Photoshop CS3 - By Ben Long
Ben Long has written a first look at Photoshop CS3 article at Macworld.com. Here's the intro:
"In ordinary times, Adobe products only see the light of day when they’re ready to land on retail shelves. So it’s a bit of a departure from the software giant’s playbook to make a free beta of Photoshop CS3 available for download. But, with the CS3 release date still months away, and Apple’s transition to the Intel processor complete, the CS3 beta program provides a welcome solution for Mac users who have been hesitant to upgrade their Macs due to a lack of an Intel-native Photoshop.
"In addition to native compatibility with Intel-based Macs, the CS3 beta also packs a large selection of important new features, including interface changes, non-destructive filters, easier compositing, improvements to Camera Raw, and a completely redesigned version of Bridge, Adobe’s companion file browser.
"In our initial tests, the Photoshop CS3 beta has proven to be very stable, while offering much improved performance on both Intel- and PowerPC-based machines. Intel users will certainly want to download it right away for the performance increase, but thanks to the program’s stability, most users will also probably find it suitable for production work. Interface-wise, the program’s core features remain unchanged, making it an easy transition for experienced users."

Photoshop CS3: Get Your First Look at the Beta!
Christopher Smith and Jennifer Smith over at creativepro.com have written an overview of what's new in Photoshop CS3. From the intro:
"Strange (for Adobe) but true: If you're a registered user of Photoshop CS2, you can download a free, 750MB beta of Photoshop CS3. If you don't have CS2, are leery of beta software, or just want a guided tour before you take the plunge yourself, you've come to the right place. We've been working with the beta version of Photoshop CS3 for a while now, and it certainly is worth a look. Among other things, it includes significant improvements to the workspace, filters, and selection tools. Here's a tour of the new capabilities that we find most exciting."
More Elbow Room
"As soon as you launch Photoshop CS3, you'll see that the toolbar is now a single column. (Don't like it? You can return to the old two-column display by clicking the gray bar at the top of the toolbar.) Additionally, palettes are collapsed to a compact view and represented by icons, saving even more space. We've found that the new workspace makes it easier to focus more on the images, and the tools became more of a natural extension of our work. As we describe some of the enhancements, we think you'll understand why."

SiteGrinder Photoshop Plugin - Create Websites Instantly
There often seems to be a strict division of labor within the world of web design and development. Creative professionals tend to stick to the Photoshop domain, while those well-versed in scripting are left to the task of implementing their work. Indeed, the two realms are quite different from each other, to which any of us even vaguely familiar with either can easily attest.
Essentially, Photoshop is a no-holds-barred design studio, offering the artist a seemingly endless array of creative options. On the other hand, HTML, CSS, Java and the like follow strict rules of engagement, requiring the developer to take any number of esoteric concerns into consideration in order to ensure that designs are properly displayed on the web.
Turn Photoshop Into A Complete Web Design Tool
SiteGrinder seeks to bridge this gap between design and development. Basically, this program turns Photoshop into an easy-to-use and fully functional web design tool. With SiteGrinder, designers will now have the freedom to totally let their creativity loose and then, without skipping a beat, transfer their designs to the web. Bringing esthetic concerns together with more practical considerations, this program is an amazingly powerful tool that would make a fantastic addition to any web designer's bag of tricks.
Generate Your Web Pages Directly From Photoshop
By generating web pages directly from Photoshop, you'll be able to spend much more time on the creative end of the spectrum, since you'll know right off the bat how well particular designs will translate to the web. No more going back to the Photoshop drawing board after getting a phone call from your development team, telling you that what you had envisioned doesn't have a chance of being displayed on the web. You can immediately visually and interactively test your designs, which permits you to then make changes to either esthetics or functions while it's still relatively early on in the design process.
Pricing and Availability
Mac OS X and Windows versions of the SiteGrinder unlockable demo are available now via download. SiteGrinder can be ordered from Media Lab's online store.
