Calibrating your monitor for viewing photographs

The images are smaller and less detailed, but the biggest variable is how you, the viewer, have your system set up. You can publish a book. Jennifer Sauer took an inspired idea and saw it through to her first photo-illustrated manuscript, The Way to Tea. It’s an adventure guide to San Francisco tea culture, and it is beautiful. In this interview with Derrick Story, Jennifer explains how she conceived of the concept, pulled it together into pictures and words, and eventually signed a deal with Earth Aware Editions to publish and distribute the project.

Photoshop 101: Edit Text Faster
Editing text in Photoshop can be a nuisance on the fly, but I have a quick productivity tip to make your life a little easier. There is really no need to use the Type/Text Tool to edit a text layer unless you only need to highlight part of the text, or a small part of a large body of text. If you deal with a lot of text layers in Photoshop that are, for example, a bullet point or a short sentence, or small paragraph, this is the tip for you.

Scaling your images with seam carving technology
You can use seam carving on your own images by visiting the rsizr Web site. You can upload an image up to 2880 pixels in width (the Flash limit) and begin pegging areas of your image to stretch, not stretch or remove completely. Then simply adjust the sliders on the sides of the image to scale the image. There are no instructions, but it’s fairly straight forward.

A little while back we posted a story linking to an article on the Luminous Landscape website (Do curves throw you a curve?) in which author Mark Segal offered some interesting perspectives on the nature of curve adjustments in Camera Raw and how these compared with traditional RGB composite curve adjustments made in photoshop. In this feature article for Lightroom-News I have concentrated on analyzing the difference between Tone Curve adjustments made in Lightroom and Photoshop curves. I show you here a method for testing curve comparisons between the two programs and some observations on how and why they differ.
