Photoshop Tutorial Site PSDTuts Launches Redesign

Found a very polished Photoshop tutorial site, PSDTuts, which features some very extensive Photoshop tutorials that all end with a great little extra bonus — you get a PSD file you can download and work with. Pretty sweet! I love work-along files, especially when they have 28 layers, which is what you get with the Stunning Old-World Look tutorial.
Run by an Australian company, Eden Creative Communities, PSDTuts has been getting hammered by multiple Digg attacks lately and is reeling from the traffic. I reached Collis, the site owner (and the one who's been producing all of the tutorials at the moment), for a quick Q&A:
Can you give us a little PSDTut.com history please?
PSDTuts is a site we've recently given a makeover. It has been around for a few months since we bought the domain but with just a couple of tutorials on the site in plain HTML. Last week we gave it a spring clean, moved it into Wordpress and have started adding some new content to the site.
What makes you different from the other Photoshop tutorial sites?
I'm not 100% sure what it is that makes us different, but the tutorials seem to be quite popular so far, which is great. It's just me writing at the moment, however we're opening up submissions to anyone who'd like to contribute (details here). We pay a fixed fee for each tutorial, and they need to be of outstanding quality to make the grade.
Personally I learnt my early design skills from Photoshop tutorials years ago and have always been keen to in turn write more for others out there. So it's great to be able to do so today and build a site that generates some revenue as well!
What are you plans for the future?
You can expect to see a new tutorial each week and I'll be aiming to make them in-depth breakdowns to achieving some seemingly complex effects.

In this tutorial we are going to create a sort of oldy-worldy composition featuring a compass and making use of some awesome vector artwork from Arsenal. As always there is a PSD file at the bottom of the tutorial. Be warned this is a LONG tutorial!
Advanced Glow Effects
In this tutorial we’re going to create some really sharp looking glow effects using a combination of layer styles, the pen tool and colour blending. The end effect is quite stunning and hopefully you’ll pick up some tips you didn’t know before.
Icey Styles in Photoshop
In this tutorial we’re going to create an icey-cold effect using layer styles and that you can apply to different objects. Then we’ll put it on a nice background to give it some kick.
Chrome Styles in Photoshop
This isn’t so much a tutorial as a layer style to download. It can be applied to different shapes and letters to produce a metalic chrome like effect.
Making a Message Strip in Photoshop
In this tutorial we’re going to make a little message strip in Photoshop that you can place in the top right corner of a design. These little strips look very trendy and web2-y, particularly in web designs! It’s quite an easy effect to do and in this tutorial we’ll add some shadow and light to make it pop!
Creating a Mac-Type Background in Photoshop
This tutorial is about making a “mac” style background. You can use these in all sorts of situations, including the obvious – your desktop as well as part of your designs or for corporate work (powerpoint presentations, flash work etc).
Hazardous Red Background
This tutorial is about making a textured red background and using Photoshop’s shape tool to add a design element.
Transparent Glass Lettering in Photoshop
In this tutorial we’re going to use some super layer effects and a bit of extra magic to make a lettering style that looks transparent and stunning.
Metallic Styles in Photoshop
In this tutorial we’re going to create a metallic effect using layer styles and gradients that you can apply to different objects. We’ll put it on a nice background and create a style for lettering that makes it look like it’s embedded into the metal.
